Cash Letter Service for Yen Travelers' Cheques

SMBC is offering bulk JPY cheque collection service.
The main procedural guidelines will be:


  1. All collection items shall be sent to;
    SMBC International Operations
    (for the attention of SMBC International Business Co., Ltd.2-10, Shinbashi 5-chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo-to)
    (SMBC International Business Co., Ltd., is the operational division for travelers cheque administration.)
  2. The credit date to your yen clearing account with SMBC will be the third business day in Tokyo after our receipt of your travelers cheques at our Tokyo head office.
  3. On receipt of your travelers cheques by SMBC International Business Co.,Ltd., we will inform you of the credit date and credit amount by facsimile.

For ease of identification, the customer bank is advised to enclose its travelers' cheques in a sealed envelope marked for the attention of Cash Letter Service in order to avoid confusion with other cheques and travelers' cheques.

The customer bank will be informed of any unpaid items by fax or SWIFT MT999 in 4 or 5 business days after SMBC receives its travelers' cheques. The travelers' cheques will be returned by mail accompanied by a paper statement showing the reason for non payment. SMBC will debit the customer bank' s account with original value date.
