Permission to Open a Representative Office in New Delhi

 

TOKYO, January 21, 2011 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Masayuki Oku) hereby announces that SMBC received approval from the Reserve Bank of India on January 6, 2011 to open a representative office in New Delhi. SMBC will now take the necessary steps to open the representative office.

 

The establishment of a new representative office in New Delhi will enable SMBC to more effectively gather information in India, which has the worldfs second largest population and tremendous growth potential as a consumer market.

 

SMBC will continue to offer commercial banking services to its Japanese clients through SCB Japan Desk under the business alliance with Standard Chartered Bank. Meanwhile, it will cooperate with Kotak Mahindra Bank to develop new business opportunities in asset management, alternate assets, securities and investment banking businesses.
