TOKYO, October 18, 2012 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IDA Ireland on October 17, 2012, in order to promote communication and business exchange between Ireland and Japan.

IDA Ireland is the Irish government agency responsible for the attraction and development of high quality foreign direct investment in Ireland, a country that is globally recognized as possessing a combination of a pool of talented resources, an attractive tax regime and a pro-business environment.

SMBC has had an establishment in Ireland since 1989 through its subsidiary, Sumitomo Mitsui Finance Dublin Limited. SMBC has recently expanded its presence in Ireland with the launch of SMBC Aviation Capital, and SMFGfs group company, JRI America, a subsidiary of Japan Research Institute, also opened the Ireland Technology Development Centre last year.

The signing of this MoU on mutual cooperation reflects our proactive stance to strengthen the SMBC's capabilities to support the business activities of Japanese and Irish corporates.
