TOKYO, May 30, 2013 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) announced the commencement of business today, May 30, 2013, of its Chonburi Exchange Office in the Kingdom of Thailand. SMBC is the only Japanese bank to open an office in Thailand outside Bangkok.

Thailand has been developing as a major manufacturing hub and its economy is expected to grow further on the back of trade liberalization within ASEAN and as a driver of growth in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region, which also includes such countries as Vietnam, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

The Chonburi Province has been attracting leading Japanese and other foreign manufacturers in recent years thanks to Laem Chabang Port, the largest trading port in Thailand.
