– Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President and CEO: Takeshi Kunibe)
announced the commencement of operations today of Canada Branch in Toronto.
SMBCfs banking
operations in Canada, to date, was conducted through the wholly-owned
subsidiary Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation of Canada. However, due to
recent changes in banking regulations and business environment in Canada, SMBC
decided to transfer the subsidiaryfs business to the newly established Canada Branch.
After the completion of
the business transfer, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation of Canada will
proceed with the liquidation procedures.
SMBC Canada Branch will focus
more than ever on delivering enhanced financial services in Canada.
