PT Bank Sumitomo Mitsui Indonesia (SMBCI) aims to become the Most Preferred, Trusted and Leading Bank in Indonesia. We will achieve this by contributing to the economic development of the country through the provision of a diverse range of financial solutions to Japanese companies and rapidly growing Indonesian companies, as well as project financing to support infrastructure development.

Our Business

SMBCI offers a wide range of financial services and products to cater the needs of businesses in Indonesia, which include state owned enterprises, multinational companies, large Indonesian companies as well as Japanese companies. In the recent years, SMBCI has also been actively participating in project finance, syndication business particularly in infrastructure project and supporting industry, which is in line with the focus of the Indonesian government on infrastructure development.

HR Development Strategy

SMBCI strives to continuously provide developmental opportunities to its employees through various trainings and competency development programs, held both locally and overseas. Starting from 2013, as part of its development strategy to nurture young employees, SMBCI started a comprehensive program called Shinjin Ken (a Japanese-style entry program for fresh graduates) to equip young employees with the right mindset from student to a professional, strong banking knowledge and technical skills. This program later evolved into Corporate Banking Trainee Program, with additional emphasis on the implementation of practical skills during On the Job Training.

Corporate Social Responsibility

In 2015, to enhance its CSR initiatives in Indonesia, SMBCI and SMBC signed a Memorandum of Understanding on CSR activities with Djarum Foundation, a non-profit organization under Djarum Group of Indonesia. SMBCI and SMBC believe that through the CSR activities conducted together with Djarum Foundation, we can contribute to the improvement of the well-being of the Indonesian community.

In specific, our CSR initiatives are focused in improving the quality of vocational school and the skill set of its students which would help to improve the young generation employment. Several CSR collaboration have been conducted with the partners, such as supporting the local vocational maritime school (which is in line with the Indonesian government initiative of “Toward a Maritime Nation”), nursing, machinery, IT, culinary and animation schools. The CSR collaborations thus far include simulator donation to both maritime and nursing school, setting up of an animation studio as well as conducting short-term training for the nursing school instructors at Japanese hospital.

Awarded overall 1st place in the BUKU 3 Category (Assets < Rp 50 Trillion) of the Indonesia Banking Award V 2016, an award co-sponsored by Economic Review and Perbanas Institute.

SMBC was named Project Finance House of the Year - Indonesia, by The Asset for a deal conducted in collaboration with SMBCI.

2015

Awarded 3rd place in the BUKU 3 Category (Assets < Rp 50 Trillion) of the Indonesia Banking Award IV 2015, an award co-sponsored by Economic Review and Perbanas Institute.

History

1958 Bank Pegawai Pensiunan Milter established as a savings bank.
1986 Renamed Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN).
2008 TPG Nusantara S.a.r.l. acquired a 71.6% stake in BTPN to become the majority shareholder. BTPN became a public listed bank with IDR 13.7 trillion assets.
2013 SMBC acquired a 24.26% stake in BTPN from TPG Nusantara S.a.r.l. and other shareholders.
2014 SMBC’s additional investment of 15.74% raised its overall stake in BTPN to 40%.
