Commencement of Business Operations of

Subsidiary Bank in Malaysia

TOKYO, April 4, 2011 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) will commence business operations of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Berhad as a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMBC in Malaysia on April 11, 2011.

The establishment of this subsidiary will enable SMBC to provide and deliver full banking services in Malaysia, as another step forward in offering comprehensive services to its clients in Malaysia.

We consider Malaysia as one of the important financial markets for our business, as the economy in Malaysia continues to grow and further expand.  We will continue to strive in offering the enhanced comprehensive services to its clients in Malaysia.
