Commencement of Securities Business in Australia

TOKYO, March 1, 2012 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (“SMBC” hereunder, President & CEO: Takeshi Kunibe), SMBC Nikko Securities Inc. (“SMBC Nikko” hereunder, President & CEO: Eiji Watanabe), and SMBC Nikko Capital Markets Limited (“CM(LN)” hereunder, President: Antony Yates) today announced that CM(LN) has commenced securities business operations in Australia.

CM(LN) in conjunction with SMBC and SMBC Nikko is an important component of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group’s global securities business, providing investment services to meet the financial needs of clients in Europe.

As Japanese investors continue to seek investment opportunities in Australia, CM(LN) has established an office in Sydney (“CM(SYD)”) to service local financial institutions and other frequent borrowers looking to diversify their funding sources and access the Japanese market.  

CM(SYD) will assist in strengthening relationships with local clients and provide services specifically tailored to meet their financial requirements, whilst also providing a broad range of financial products to meet the corresponding requirements of Japanese investors.
