Opening of Lima Representative Office

TOKYO, May 9, 2012 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) announced today that it will establish Lima Representative Office in Republic of Peru on May 11, 2012 to expand its network in Latin America.

Peru, with its rich mineral and fishery resources and domestic demand expansion under the recent political stability, is expected to see significant further developments in its economy. In addition, Peru’s trade volume is expected to grow through the signing of free trade agreements with many countries, including the Economic Partner Agreement between Peru and Japan that became effective in March 2012.

Latin America is one of SMBC’s strategic areas. It established Latin America Department in 2011, and already has a subsidiary in Brazil and offices in Mexico and Columbia. The opening of Lima Representative Office enables SMBC to enhance its services to Japanese and other Asian clients in Peru, and its capability to provide trade and project finance in a timely manner
