Execution of Loan Agreement with Banco de Bogota (Colombia)

 

Supporting Colombian renewable energy projects

 

TOKYO, March 18, 2013 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC, Governor: Hiroshi Okuda) signed a Loan Agreement (co-financing amount: US$ 100 million) with Banco de Bogota, the second largest commercial bank (total asset) in Colombia on March 16, 2013.

 

SMBC and JBIC will provide co-financing to Banco de Bogota and support Colombiafs environment-related businesses such as hydraulic power and biomass power generation projects through JBICfs Global action for Reconciling Economic growth and Environmental preservation (GREEN), which is aimed to finance for projects to preserve significantly the global environment in the developing countries.

 

Since signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on September 17, 2010, SMBC and Banco de Bogota have been expanding collaboration efforts across multiple product lines including this loan. We will continue to forge synergies between the two banks and actively support Japanese companiesf business expansion in the Andean region utilizing SMBCfs operational base in Bogota.
