TOKYO, September 1, 2010---Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Masayuki Oku) announced today that it has established Bogota Representative Office in Republic of Colombia, to further expand its network in the Americas.

The Andes region (Colombia, Peru, Panama, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela) is expected to continue to see solid growth, following Brazil and Mexico, and seizing the opportunities this economic development offers will enable us to gain more business in sectors where SMBC has a competitive edge, such as project finance. Led by Japan and South Korea, Asian companies are increasingly participating in projects in the region, and the Bogota Representative Office will offer sophisticated financial solutions for projects in the fields of oil and gas, natural resources, energy, and power, to meet the needs of our clients.

Together with our other locations in North America (New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco Branches, Houston Representative Office, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation of Canada) and in Latin America (Banco Sumitomo Mitsui Brasileiro S.A., Mexico City Representative Office), the establishment of the Bogota Representative Office further enables SMBC to provide sophisticated financial solutions to its customers in a timely manner across the North and South American continents.
